Scoresheet Tips

SCOREKEEPER INSTRUCTIONS

Thank you for volunteering to maintain the scoresheet for today’s game. To help make you more comfortable with your responsibilities, please use the following as a guide.

BEFORE THE GAME….
  • Obtain 3-part scoresheet from the home team manager. Check scoresheet to be sure that rosters are printed for both teams. If labels are being used, be sure that labels are applied to all 3 pages. Check to be sure team names are written in space provided at top of form as well as date of game and level of game.
  • Identify starting GOALIE for each team. In GOALKEEPER SAVES section (may also be SAVES or SHOTS on non-NIHL scoresheets), record the JERSEY NUMBER of each goalie, the LENGTH OF FIRST PERIOD (11:00 or 12:00) and the PERIOD NUMBER (1).
  • Give scoresheet to referee. They will enter their names and ID numbers and verify roster totals for both teams.
….Now you are ready to start the game!!

DURING THE GAME….
  • For each goal that is scored, go to the GOALS section of the sheet. Record PERIOD, TIME LEFT IN PERIOD, SCORING TEAM and JERSEY NUMBERS of player scoring the goal and player(s) awarded assists. The referee will give you this information.
  • At the end of each period, record goals scored by each team in that period in SCORING section of scoresheet.
  • For each penalty, go to the PENALTIES section of the sheet. Record PERIOD, JERSEY NUMBER of penalized player, TEAM of penalized player, LENGTH OF PENALTY, TYPE OF INFRACTION and the TIME LEFT IN THE PERIOD (Time-Off)
    • When player goes back on ice, record the time he/she is back on ice (Time-On)
  • If you want to record Shots On Goal (SOG), keep track of SOG during each period (a SOG is any shot that goes in the net or would have gone in the net if not blocked by the goalie). At the end of each period, record GOALKEEPER SAVES for each team (Shots On Goal minus goals scored).
…..You’re not quite done yet

AFTER THE GAME
  • Total up scoring and record FINAL SCORE in SCORING section.
  • Total up Shots on Goal/Saves and record FINAL TOTALS for each team.
  • Write your name in the space provided as SCORER.
  • Give scoresheet to BOTH referees for them to review and sign.
  • Give MIDDLE COPY of completed scoresheet to visiting team manager.
  • Give TOP and BOTTOM COPIES of completed scoresheet to home team manager.
THANK YOU FOR HELPING MAKE YOUTH HOCKEY POSSIBLE!!
